Susan Yowell

Susan Yowell – ‘From the silver chalice given by Thomas Jefferson to Dr. Robley Dunglison, to Dr. Walter Reed’s Congressional Medal of Honor, given in honor of his “conquering” of yellow fever, I get to work with some of the most rare and valuable items in the history of medicine.  In Historical Collections & Services at the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, I create daily updates for our department’s Facebook page, create displays of rare materials for classes and groups who visit our department, support the day-to-day functioning of the department, and answer requests from around the world for people who want to use images or other content from our collection.  Much of our collection is digitized and can be viewed online, but I often scan and send images of materials still in print only and send high resolution images to publishers and scholars from Hong Kong to London, and across the U. S.  We are a small department with a worldwide reach!’
